Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) is a major public university in India located in Delhi. It achieves the level of Central University. It is located on the banks of the Yamuna in Okhla, the southern region of New Delhi.
It was established in 1920, during British rule. This was made a central university by an Act of the Indian Parliament in 1988. Sir Sarwar Jung of Delhi designed the university.
History of Jamia Millia Islamia
Prior to Indian independence, in 1920, a university was established by Muslim leaders and freedom fighters. The chief founding leaders, the Ali Ali Brothers, Muhammad Ali Jawhar and Shaukat Ali, were famous.
- Abul Kalam Azad, the nationalist leader of the Indian National Congress, was one of his main early protectors.
- Mohammed Ali Jawhar became the first Vice-Chancellor of Jamia.
- Zakir Hussain took over the university in his troubled times in 1927 and guided it through all the difficulties. After his death, he was buried on the university premises, where his tomb is open to the public.
- Later, Mukhtar Ahmed Ansari became the Vice Chancellor The university’s main auditorium and health centre are named after them.

In December 1988, Jamia was given the status of a central university by Parliament under the Jamia Millia Islamia Act of 1988 (No. 59 of 1988).
In 2006, Sultan Abdullah bin Al Saud of Saudi Arabia travelled to the university and donated $30 million to build the library. Now, that library, Dr Zakir Hussein Library (Central Library), is known as
The campus of Jamia Millia Islamia
The premises have been distributed over a large area. Many of its buildings are being modernized. Greenery and forests are supported. The beautiful cricket ground of the university (known as Bhopal Ground) has hosted Ranjithi Trophy matches and women’s cricket Test matches.
Besides its seven faculties, Anwar Jamal is the centre of learning and research, such as the Kidwai Mass Communication Research Center (MCRC), Engineering and Technology Faculty, Fine Arts Faculty, Theoretical Physics Center, and Maulana Mohammad Ali Jawhar Academy in Jamia.
There is also Third World Studies (ATWS). Jamia offers undergraduate and postgraduate information and technology courses.

Jamia Millia Islamia has nine faculties under which it offers academic and extension programs:
1. Law faculty
This faculty specializes in quality training and education for emerging lawyers through the following programs:

2. Faculty of Engineering and Technology
This faculty was established in 1985 with the departments of civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering. It has joined the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Department of Applied Science and Humanities (1996) and has six engineering departments: Applied Sciences and Humanities, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communications, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering and a University Polytechnic These departments conduct several projects sponsored by agencies. The faculty offers regular courses and continuous programs.

1. AJ’s Mass Communication Center
The Mass Communication Research Center was established in 1982 by the then Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia (later Chancellor) Anwar Jamal Kidwai. Jamia is today known primarily as per his site for these public communication courses.
2. Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (CNN)
The mission of this centre is to promote leading basic and practical research in the field of nanoscience and nanotechnology, with potential applications to meet national strategic needs.
The center’s main research focus includes nanofabrication and nanotechnology, nanotechnology and nanotechnology, nanotechnology and nanomedicine, and nanostructure characteristics and measurements.
3. Management study centre
The Management Studies Center currently offers three programs: a PhD in management, an MBA (full-time) program, and an MBA (International Business) program.

Library of Jamia Millia Islamia
Dr Zakir Hussain Library The university’s main central library, Dr Zakir Hussein, is known as the Library, which includes books, microfilms, periodic clauses, manuscripts, and rare books, along with a collection of 400,000 artefacts.
Some halls are dedicated to them. The library is open to all the powerful students of Jamia. In addition, some faculty and centre libraries have a theme collection.

In 2018, 201-250 in Asia and 801-1000 in the world were ranked by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. The QS World University Rankings of 2018 gave it 200 places in Asia. In 2018, the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) was ranked 19th in India, 12 universities, 32 in engineering rankings, and 34 in management rankings.
The Faculty of Law was given sixth place in India by “India’s Top 25 Law Colleges in 2017” and “Top Law College 2017” of the 20th week in India.
